Today, March 22nd 2017, Brussels reflects on the past year – acknowledging events and endeavors of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). The Parliament Magazine’s MEP Awards this time more than ever reward efforts towards bringing together policymakers and stakeholders.

Mr. Helveg Petersen’s work has been characterised by an outstanding contribution to the main objectives of the common EU energy policy: Demonstrating strong and thorough understanding of close interaction between energy, climate (and consequently decarbonisation goals) and economic growth aspects, explains nominators on his key role in spearheading the launch of a direct response to the Energy Union.

President to Energy Solutions, Vice President to the ITRE Committee and Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Helveg Petersen was originally nominated by first-movers from the global energy industry, including 3M, Danfoss, DONG Energy, EoN, GE, Grundfos, Microsoft, Panasonic, Rockwool, Schneider Electric, Siemens, VELUX and Vestas – a list that was just recently expanded to include Aurubis, ista, PKA and Statoil.

Nominators elaborate on the endeavors under the first criteria related to measures including competitive, functional internal energy market with consumers at the heart of the system while reducing energy prices in the long term:

Mr. Helveg Petersen initiated a solution-oriented approach by pooling major industrial players and solution providers across the energy value chain to demonstrate Europe’s technological capabilities to provide solutions for the transformation towards a low-carbon society in a cost-effective way.

Competitiveness was recently addressed at a high-level meeting with the participation of Commissioner for Competition, Mrs. Vestager. The internal energy market was likewise addressed only a few months ago with the participation of Vice President in charge of the Energy Union, Mr. Maroš Šefčovič.

Nominators continue the endeavors under the second criteria related to promoting the EU decarbonisation goals, supporting the development of new and renewable forms of energy as well as the application of the ‘energy efficiency first’ principle:

Energy Solutions bring together policymakers and multinational companies to join forces by discussing and integrating energy solutions of the future in areas of energy markets, smart metering, energy efficiency, ICT, renewable energy sources, heating and cooling, smart and healthy buildings etc. with the one single objective: To achieve EU’s energy and climate goals for 2050.

Energy Solutions looks back at a busy year with work stream discussions on integrated energy solutions across heating and cooling, sectors not covered by the emissions trading system (non-ETS), energy efficiency, the future energy market, and competition along the policymaking process from proposal to policies.

Energy Solutions is pleased to announce the date of the annual plenary November 9, 2017. In the meantime, you can follow the work on www.enersolutions.eu and twitter: @EnergySolutions
